Around Monopoli
Puglia is renowned for its pale, magical daylight and the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic sea. Food is exceptional, mostly from the area and full of taste and sunlight.
In the Puglia region there are interesting historical villages and towns well worth a visit, such as Ostuni, Alberobello, Locorotondo and many more. Other highlights are the caves of Castellana, which offer a scenic 3 km walk underground, or the Baroque city of Lecce at about one and a half hour southwards by car, commonly nicknamed as the ‘ Florence of the south ‘ or ‘ the Athens of Puglia ‘. In the adjacent province Basilicata you can find Matera, with its ancient cave dwellings. The city has been a film location on numerous occasions and was awarded the title ‘ European Capital of Culture 2019 ‘ in Italy .
